HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!

It will soon be the year 4704 in the lunar calendar, the year of the boar, or more familiarly, the pig. Our fat little porcine friend is the symbol of good luck and abundant prosperity, a most auspicious sign.
February 18 th is Chinese New Year's Day, the first day of the first lunar month with a new moon. It's the start of the 15 day observance of the Spring Festival, the most important of Chinese holidays. This is the time for thoroughly cleaning our houses, throwing out the old, preparing to welcome in the new and ushering in the renewal of all things. We literally sweep out the old, but once the new year begins, we cannot sweep dust or trash out the doors lest we block the new good fortune from entering. There are great feasts and wonderful new year delicacies to help celebrate the coming of Spring. On the 15 th day when the full moon appears, we celebrate the Lantern Festival which falls on March 4th this year. |

Chinese New Year is historically the time of the largest human migration where Chinese all over the world return home to reunion dinners and family gatherings on the eve before the new year begins. It is the time when family matters most and being with loved ones is the greatest blessing.
Included in this renewal should be the reworking of ourselves; our bodies, our minds, our souls. While we reflect on our past trials and tribulations, the joys and accomplishments of the year past, we strive to forge ahead into the coming year with new resolve. It's a time for breaking unhealthy habits, becoming inspired to exercise more, committing to better self-care and setting new goals. As a practitioner of Chinese medicine, I encourage you to begin the new year with health and wellness. My personal goal is to help my patients attain better health, stay well and enjoy their lives more fully and naturally with acupuncture care. Call your practitioner soon.
Resolve to begin year 4704 on a healthy note. At this happy, festive time of year, do something for yourself. Give yourself the greatest gift of all, that of health and wellness. After all, what good is all the wealth and prosperity in the world without the good health to enjoy it?
My sincere wish for your health, wealth and happiness,
Elizabeth Shiah
